EDUCATIONGod save your majesty! My royal cousin, teach you our princess English? - Henry V, Act V, Scene II Almost 400 years after his death, Shakespeare's words still resonate with us today. The many journeys presented within his texts remain valuable in the modern era, teaching us about life's lessons in a way that is both artistic and boundless. To this end, the Prague Shakespeare Festival's educational advisory board is very proud to offer study guides for the classroom, as well as exclusive educational programs for teachers and students. The PSF also has special performances of student matinees, specifically catered to immerse both teachers and students in a richly textured Shakespearean experience. The PSF endeavours to extend our educational philosophy with pre-show and post-show discussions, giving audience members the opportunity to engage in discussion about our plays with the Artistic Director, members of the PSF Artistic Company, and special guests in attendance. For professional actors, the Prague Shakespeare Festival runs acting classes and workshops throughout the year. One of the most exciting PSF educational initiatives is our collaboration with the Bear Educational Theatre (the oldest and largest English-language educational theatre in the Czech Republic). PSF Artistic Director Guy Roberts adapted, created and directed a special 70 minute, 5 actor touring version of Romeo and Juliet that has played to hundreds of students on tour to schools throughout the Czech Republic, France, Poland, Slovakia and Austria. This production motivates students by giving them positive experiences with the English language. For most of these students, not only is it their first experience of a theatrical performance of a Shakespeare play in English but for some it is their first theatrical experience of any kind!
